Who is Champuru?

Aloha, I'm Donna, known everywhere on the Internet as "Champuru." I'm a Christian, blissfully wedded to my perfect match (the yang to my yin) of 16 years and a stay-at-home mom to my miracle baby, born in October 2008. Living life in Hawaii, less than 5 miles from my hometown, seeking balance in my pursuit of family, faith, recreation, and rest. Read more on the About page.

  • Ever-increasing vocabulary. Baby Champuru has been steadily adding words to her verbal vocabulary (dada, mama, baba, jiji, keys, no, more, please, door, ball) and regularly exercises her sign language (milk, more, cracker).  She also makes a concerted effort to repeat words we emphasize. Tonight’s word was “berries” when she was treated to a dessert of fresh strawberries.  It’s exciting to see her developing her communication skills right before our eyes!
  • Social skills. Despite my previous entry about a failed playdate, Baby Champuru has been seizing recent opportunities for social interaction with other children. She seems to enjoy girls who are slightly older than her (around age 4-5) and will walk right up to them, take their hand, or give them a big hug.  Today at the doctor’s office, she made friends with a little girl and played with her in the waiting room playhouse.  I watched them interact with each other and found it hilarious that while the older girl (around 4 years old) tried to convince Baby Champuru to check out a certain section of the playhouse, Baby Champuru would not be distracted from her task at hand.  Baby Champuru had been playing with some wooden beads mounted on the wall when the girl walked to the far corner of the playhouse and beckoned her to follow. Baby Champuru walked right up to the girl and led her by the hand back to where she was originally playing. She’s definitely a leader, not a follower.
  • LOL! One of Baby Champuru’s favorite things to do is laugh out loud and it seems like she’s been finding humor in more things lately.  I am convinced that a child’s mirthful giggle is the most beautiful sound in the world.

That chart is so neat! I should do something like that for my daughter on our blog and not just rely on the doc’s chart.

I agree with Suki – sounds like a great combination to me! :) And with you – when I hear my daughter laugh my heart just about explodes with joy. A laughing child is heartwarming. :)
