Frosting Fingers – Enjoying some cake to celebrate her birthday
Photo by Lisa Hoang of Simply Baby Photography
On Sunday, we celebrated Baby Champuru’s first birthday. The culmination of months of planning and preparation resulted in a nice, low key gathering of friends and family. Everything went as planned, but the three hours went by quickly. There was more than enough food to go around (and take home), the decorations and favors looked great, and everyone seemed to have enjoyed themselves. Best of all, Baby Champuru took her morning nap as scheduled and arrived fully rested and managed to avoid any major meltdowns during the party.

As to be expected, it took a few minutes for Baby Champuru to get used to the unfamiliar faces, noise, and activity. Upon arrival, she cried and clung to me for a few minutes – but soon after, she was out and about, running around and enjoying herself.
Even though it was a fairly small event by Hawaii standards (less than 100 attendees is small for a baby luau), we could not have pulled it off without the help from friends and family who stepped up, rolled up their sleeves, and offered their assistance.
If we could do it all over again, I wouldn’t change a thing — except maybe get a larger venue so we could have invited more of our loved ones to share in the celebration.
Thank you to Derek, Ryan, and Shari for capturing these special moments for us on camera and video. Here are a few of my favorites:
