Who is Champuru?

Aloha, I'm Donna, known everywhere on the Internet as "Champuru." I'm a Christian, blissfully wedded to my perfect match (the yang to my yin) of 15 years and a stay-at-home mom to my miracle baby, born in October 2008. Living life in Hawaii, less than 5 miles from my hometown, seeking balance in her pursuit of family, faith, recreation, and rest. Read more on the About page.

Desperately Seeking Alaska

Alaska quarterMy dad has been saving his loose change for Baby Champuru since before she was conceived.  Today, we went through all of the new commemorative state quarters to see if we could make a complete set.  Wouldn’t you know it, but we are short only one: Alaska.  I suspect that it’s probably because that one hasn’t been in circulation as long as the others, being the 49th state, it’s harder to find.

I’m also looking for a folder or map to display the commemorative quarters for Baby Champuru.  It will be a great teaching tool for her later on and a nice keepsake from her Jiji.

Jiji is still working on counting and putting the rest of the quarters into the coin wrappers, but he says that he has $350 already packaged.  After he gets through the quarters, he has a bunch of dimes, nickels and pennies, too.  Thanks to Jiji’s generosity, Baby Champuru’s college fund will get a nice infusion.

Now, to find Alaska.

I work in the Cash Office at the NEX and I agree with you. I rarely see Alaska coins. I do see a lot of Hawaii coins. Did you know that Hawaii isn’t the last quarter to come out? Well, it is the last STATE quarter, but there are also quaters for Washington D.C and US territories. D.C. and Puerto Rico is out right now. Not sure which one is next but it could be Guam, U.S. Virgin Island or American Samoa.

You can find cool coin collecting folders or containers at The Hobby Company in Downtown Pearlridge. My co-worker is collecting quarters so I got her a holder from there. Thing about those holders is that there is 2 spots for each quarter for each mint.

WOW… I’m starting to sound like a seasoned coin collector. I guess with all the money I work with, I see a lot of cool stuff come through. Like the new Lincoln pennies that started this year and Silver Certificates. If you ever spot a bill with a star next to the serial number you might want to keep it. The star signifies that an error was made on the bill. It’s like a collectors’ item.
