Dot-Com Days

Going out, but staying in the neighborhood

As a stay-at-home mom, it’s easy to allow myself to become sequestered in the house.  I try to get out at least once a day, strolling around the neighborhood either in the morning or in the afternoon when Hubby gets home.  Despite my efforts at getting fresh air, there are times when busyness gets the better of me and I find myself indoors for days on end and feeling more than a little claustrophobic.  So, by the time Hubby’s day off rolls around, I’m champing at the bit to go out. Anywhere. Today was no exception.

Our favorite place for lunch is Auntie Pasto’s in Kunia. The food is great, the service is always good, and it’s very baby-friendly. The booths are wide enough to accommodate the baby carrier — or if you prefer, they also have highchairs available.  More often than not, we go with our usual order: Gorgonzola bread appetizer, Caesar Salad, and Spinach, Garlic & Roasted Artichoke Hearts pizza.  If there’s still room, we split a Sin Pie. All of the above was on the menu for today. Baby Champuru slept through most of lunch, affording Hubby and I some uninterrupted conversation and relaxed dining. It was wonderful.

After lunch, we decided to check out Waikele Outlets to take advantage of Carter’s $3.99+ sale, but one spin around the packed parking lot and we decided that Baby Champuru didn’t need $3.99 onesies that badly.  Instead, we ended up at the Mililani Town Center where we spent a few hours just hanging around.

We ran into a couple that we attended the Newborn Care class with when I was about halfway through my pregnancy.  They were seated at a table underneath an umbrella with their adorable baby boy in a jogging stroller.  The husband immediately recognized us and waved us over. We ended up sitting with them for quite some time, chatting and comparing notes about our babies who are only about a week apart.  It’s funny how an instant bond is formed between parents, especially those with children about the same age.

The couple says they spend a lot of time at the Town Center. Who knows, maybe we might start doing the same.  Prior to having a baby, I would never consider hanging out at the Town Center, but it really is a nice place to spend a couple of hours with your family when you want to get out but don’t want the hassle of driving out of the neighborhood.
