Flag Cookie Pop (made with Sweethearts Candy)

Until you have a loved one who has deployed, it’s hard to grasp the true sacrifice that the men and women of our armed forces make for us as individuals and as a country. In 2004-2005, Hubby was deployed to Iraq. It gave me a new appreciation for our military personnel, especially those serving overseas, risking their lives every day in war zones. As Independence Day approaches, I remind myself that the old idiom, “freedom isn’t free” is certainly true. We have much to be thankful for as citizens of the United States and a large part due to the efforts of our military personnel and their families.
I recently discovered that Sweethearts candies, our favorite Valentine’s Day treats, has expanded their product line to include patriotic red, white and blue Conversation Hearts. What a great way to celebrate Independence Day or let your favorite soldier know that you love them! When you buy Red, White & You Sweethearts, you also show your support for our troops because the Sweethearts brand has committed $75,000 to sponsor Operation USO Care Package that has distributed over 1.5. million care packages to American troops serving overseas.
Independence Day is just a few days away. Teach your child the significance of the 4th of July by making patriotic crafts using Sweethearts candy. Download this PDF booklet for ideas. These ideas are also great for Labor Day and Veterans’ Day!

What unit was your Hubby deployed with? Glad he’s home safe, still praying for all those over there fighting and dying for the cause of freedom. People may say that “Iraqis don’t want American Freedom…” I say, they don’t have to want American Freedom… we fight and die to give them the choice… What say you?
