The Pineapple Room

Sweet Chili-Glazed Monchong
Stir-fry Vegetables, Togarashi Miso Butter Sauce
I had been meaning to post this entry for some time now, but you know how it is.
Joyce and I went for a girls’ day out which included a sumptuous meal at Alan Wong’s Pineapple Room and shopping at Ala Moana Shopping Center. Joyce and I share a taste for good Pacific-Rim cuisine and the Pineapple Room is one of our favorite places to have lunch. The open and casual atmosphere makes it a wonderful place for relaxed conversation with friends before hitting the mall for some power shopping. Another reason to love the Pineapple Room for lunch is the beautiful natural light that comes through the side windows that make photographing the food easy, even with a point-and-shoot.
Despite the awesome menu selections, it seems that I can never stray from the “known good,” which for me is the Sweet Chili-Glazed Monchong. Of course, the Kiawe Grilled Kalbi Shortribs and fried rice is a winner, too, but quite heavy. Oh, so tasty, but when I eat it, I know I am in for a kanak attack of epic proportions.

Seared Ahi and Furikake Crusted Honda Family Tofu Salad
Mixed Greens, Spicy Soy Vinaigrette
Joyce opted for some lighter fare with the Seared Ahi and Furikake Crusted Honda Family Tofu Salad. I love the artistic presentation of this dish.
Bittersweet Chocolate Pudding Pie Dome
Oreo Cookie Crust and Oreo Cookie Ice Cream,
Frangelico Anglaise and Chocolate Sauce
A meal is not complete without dessert. Dessert at Alan Wong’s is always tantalizing to the eyes as well as the taste buds. This decadent chocolate pie dome was crazy-delicious. Of course, I’m a huge fan of chocolate, so it’s hard for me not to like a dessert like this one.
My mouth is watering just looking at the photos again! It wasn’t just the food that made this a fantastic experience, but also the company. I hope to be able to make it back to the Pineapple Room with Joyce again soon!

Who is Champuru?
Aloha, I'm Donna, known everywhere on the Internet as "Champuru." I was born and raised in Hawaii. I'm a Christian. I'm married to my best friend of 18 years, we struggled with infertility and successfully conceived via IVF (and by the grace of God!) in 2008. I resigned from my coveted "secure" government job to be a work-at-home mom to my 3-year-old daughter. Using my degree in Information Technology and the skills obtained in the marketplace, I started my own business. Now, I work from home, taking clients on a part-time basis, working in my PJ's while the little one sleeps. Life isn't always easy, but it's all good.

Drooling here. It all looks so good…

I don’t eat out much. I’ve only been to Pineapple Room twice and BOTH TIMES had the Monchong Fish. I love it! I’ll eat it again if I ever get to go again!
