Who is Champuru?

Aloha, I'm Donna, known everywhere on the Internet as "Champuru." I'm a Christian, blissfully wedded to my perfect match (the yang to my yin) of 15 years and a stay-at-home mom to my miracle baby, born in October 2008. Living life in Hawaii, less than 5 miles from my hometown, seeking balance in her pursuit of family, faith, recreation, and rest. Read more on the About page.

Social Networking for Babies

I found this link via Ryan Ozawa’s blog:

It’s Social Networking for Babies – Twitter From the Cradle: Call it convenient. Call it baby overshare. But a host of new sites, including Totspot, Odadeo, Lil’Grams and Kidmondo, now offer parents a chance to forgo the e-mail blasts of, say, their newborn’s first trip home and instead invite friends and family to join and contribute to a network geared to connecting them to the baby in their lives.

Of course, being a web 2.0 kind of gal, I immediately checked out the services cited in the article. Lil’Grams has not yet launched and Odadeo is in private beta status. I browsed through the features of both Totspot and Kidmondo and created accounts for Baby Champuru on both sites to see which I prefer. My initial impression is that Kidmondo offers more features, one of which is very appealing to me: the ability to publish your journal entries to a hardcopy printed keepsake that they call a “Kidbook.”

I also like the fact that both services offer secured pages, which means privacy isn’t really an issue. Although if you’ve been reading my blog for any length of time, you would think that privacy isn’t high on my list of concerns. However, it’s not just about me anymore. I have to take into consideration that Baby Champuru will someday be Toddler Champuru, Adolescent Champuru, Teenager Champuru, and eventually Adult Champuru and she might not appreciate having every detail of her life chronicled in such a public way. Of course, there will be entries about her on champuru.net, but the private site will be geared toward sharing with friends and family.
