33 weeks and 5 days
This afternoon, I went to the Fetal Diagnostic Center at the Kapiolani Medical Center for my first appointment with the Sweeter Choice program for expectant mothers diagnosed with gestational diabetes.
They asked me a few fundamental medical questions, took a measurement of my tummy, listened to my heart rate and lungs, and used the Doppler monitor to listen to the fetal heartbeat. The doctor then proceeded to educate me about gestational diabetes: what it is, potential complications for the baby if not managed properly, and my increased risk of developing Type II diabetes in the future.
So far, according to the measurements, the baby looks like a normal size — so they didn’t order an ultrasound. The fetal heartbeat was strong and they’re still pleased with my blood pressure and weight gain thus far. The next step is taking the class on Wednesday which will teach me about proper diet and exercise as well as how to monitor my blood sugar levels.
All in all, a good check-up. I’m looking forward to the class on Wednesday, then another appointment with my OB doc on Friday.
Today’s stats:
Blood Pressure: 104/59
Weight gain so far: 16 pounds (but the nurse didn’t let me remove my tennis shoes, so I’m going to say 15!)

Glad that things are going well! Thanks again for sharing.
