Who is Champuru?

Aloha, I'm Donna, known everywhere on the Internet as "Champuru." I'm a Christian, blissfully wedded to my perfect match (the yang to my yin) of 15 years and a stay-at-home mom to my miracle baby, born in October 2008. Maternity Photo Session

Photo by Lisa Hoang, Windwardskies Photography

On Saturday, Hubby and I had the pleasure of doing a maternity photo shoot with the awesomely talented Lisa Hoang of Windwardskies Photography. I’ve been admiring her work for years, so I was very excited to have the opportunity to have her capture this special time in our lives.

In all likelihood, Baby Champuru will be an only child. She is our miracle baby, the product of many prayers and the grace of God. We had to go through in vitro fertilization to conceive her and the process is not only an emotional rollercoaster, but it is also extremely costly — with no guarantees. We are so grateful that the Lord blessed us with this baby and having a beautiful set of photographs to look back on will be a keepsake that we cherish forever.

Being a photog myself, albeit still quite an amateur at that, I am much more comfortable behind the camera than in front of it. However, Lisa has such an encouraging spirit that simply puts you at ease. In my opinion, a photographer can be extremely talented in a technical sense, but it’s wasted if he/she can’t bring out the emotions and expressions of the subjects. It’s the friendly factor that you either have or you don’t. Lisa definitely has it. She made the session fun and enjoyable and I’m sure it will show in the photos that result.

Before we know it, it’ll be time for her to do our newborn photo shoot! OH MY! :)

If you’re looking for a photographer, be sure to contact Lisa Hoang. She is definitely one of the best photographers on the island.

Week 31 check-up

I’m seeing the OB/GYN every two weeks now. My last appointment was on Friday, which marked 31 weeks and 2 days. Aside from the gestational diabetes, everything else looks good. According to the doc, the baby’s heartbeat is strong, measurements are right on track, and my weight and blood pressure are good.

Blood Pressure: 90/50 (this seemed insanely low — even for me, but the doc didn’t say anything about it.)
Weight gain so far: 14 pounds

In other news, my belly button has started to change shape significantly this week. It now resembles a crater and I just noticed that the outline of the rim of my belly button is sometimes visible if I’m wearing a thin cotton shirt. I asked Hubby if I should put a band-aid on it since they don’t make bras for protruding belly buttons. He thought I was joking. I’m so not joking. I just may develop an outie yet.
