Jonesing for Carbs

It’s only been three days since I discovered that I have gestational diabetes and I’m already jonesing for a fix of carbs.

Tonight, we celebrated my father-in-law’s birthday at Kyoto Ohsho. The worst part of dealing with gestational diabetes is going out to eat at a restaurant and being surrounded by everyone else’s scrumptious carb-loaded dishes and decadent desserts and not being able to partake and enjoy, too. Forgoing the sushi and tempura wasn’t too bad, but having to decline dessert made me feel deprived. And seeing that evil chocolate fountain flowing across the room was just killing me.

I resisted getting the dessert bar add-on for $3.80 more, but stopped by the McDonald’s drive-thru for a vanilla ice cream cone on the way home. Hey, it’s only 24 grams of carbs. (Better than an M&M McFlurry, which is 96 grams of carbs!)

I’m convinced that carbs makes me happy. And conversely, lack of carbs makes me fussy as all heck.

Milestone: Only 60 days to go until my due date (Sept. 24)!

I’m posting my daily diet and exercise stats at our group health and fitness blog at http://health.champuru.net.
