Busy Baby Weekend

Published by Donna at 10:28 pm under baby

I can’t believe how packed my schedule has become in recent weeks. As we get ready for the new addition to our family, it seems that there is simply not enough time in the day to get everything done. This weekend was a good example of that.

On Friday after work, Hubby and I drove to Kapolei for another pediatrician interview (2 of 4). After that, we had dinner, then went to Best Buy to pick up a laptop, wireless router, and printer for my in-laws. Then we went to their house to set it up, which took a couple of hours before we were able to finally go home and collapse into bed.

On Saturday, I slept in and got a later start than I had intended. We headed to Diagnostic Labs to get my 3-hour glucose tolerance test done, but discovered that they closed at 12:00 noon and we arrived at 9:30 — which would put us past the closing time for my last blood draw, so that was a disappointing no-go. Instead, we went to Zippy’s for breakfast to literally break my 13-1/2 hour fast, before heading out to the Baby Emporium for their big “Pink & Blue Sale.”

We purchased the crib, antibacterial mattress, and 3-drawer dresser/changing table at Baby Emporium, dropping a good $812. We had anticipated spending $1000-$1200 for the baby furniture, so I guess we’re in good shape. This is what we purchased:

Since we drove my car, we couldn’t take home the furniture that day, but will go back to pick it up with Hubby’s truck sometime in the next week or two. It is a relief to have the baby furniture purchased. Next steps will be cleanup of the “nursery,” pick up he furniture, and assembly. Admittedly, we’re still far from having the nursery ready for Baby Champuru, but at least it’s a start.

On Saturday night, we went to the Rissho Kosei Kai bon dance at Pacific Palisades. Unfortunately, by the time I thought about taking some video, the weather made a turn for the worst and rain came in intermittent drizzles and torrents — sending me running for shelter under my golf umbrella, even in the midst of our Okinawan dance set. I suppose I’m just paranoid, but I really didn’t want to get drenched and risk getting sick. It always seems to rain at Rissho Kosei Kai and in previous years, I’d just wrap a bon dance towel around my head and continue dancing, but since I am with child this year, I am taking more precautions than normal. We didn’t let the rain dampen our spirits though, and a good time was had by all.

Today, after church, I met Mahealani and we got our nails done. Since I have a maternity photo shoot scheduled for next week, I figured that I should have pretty nails for those typical hands-on-tummy pictures. Right after that, Hubby and I zoomed to town for our maternity tour at Queen’s Hospital. An early dinner at Coco Ichibanya and we were finally able to go home to catch up on the mundane, but necessary tasks of laundry and housecleaning.

Now it’s 10:30 pm and I’m only now catching my breath, but it’s time to get psyched up for Monday and hit the sack. Next week is equally busy. Things don’t start slowing down until August, so hopefully Baby Champuru doesn’t plan on making an early entrance.
