Tomorrow, Hubby and I will attend our first Prepared Childbirth class. This is when a bunch of us 3rd trimester mamas and our hubbies get together to sit on the floor, do breathing exercises, and compare belly sizes. I’m looking forward to it.
Hubby and I have been visiting baby stores to complete our registries the past few weekends. Contemplating baby necessities has really brought home the reality of the impending arrival of this new addition. I’m sure tomorrow’s Prepared Childbirth class will do the same.
I’m still unnerved about it all. I’m not sure if I’ll ever be comfortable with the thought of becoming a mother — perhaps not until I am holding that precious little baby in my arms. Can anything truly prepare you for childbirth and motherhood?
The last couple of days of my second trimester are winding down as I’ll be heading into my 28th week as of this Wednesday. The tummy is making some significant progress, as you can see in the photo above, which was taken on Friday at the Wahiawa Hongwanji bon dance. Also, today I actually saw the scale go past the 140 lb. mark for the first time in my life.
I’m starting to feel more significant fetal movement now. Amazingly, she gets quite active when I pray and also did a few somersaults during praise & worship yesterday in church. While watching “Dirty Jobs” on TV last night, I felt her moving, so I lifted my t-shirt to expose my tummy to show Hubby and he caught a quick glimpse of her kicking. She’s not much of an on-demand performer, so although we watched my stomach for signs of movement for a while longer, she did not repeat the performance. However, almost as soon as I covered up my tummy and shifted our attention to the television, she started kicking again. Go figure.
Lately, I’ve been feeling like Baby Champuru has been sitting on my bladder. I pee, and five minutes later, I feel like I have to pee again. The doc tested me for bladder infections and didn’t call me back, so I’m assuming I’m clear. I can only assume that it’s due to baby using my bladder as a pillow.
As I head into the third trimester, I’m preparing myself for exponential growth of my tummy, increased discomfort, and more trips to the ladies’ room in the last 12 weeks of pregnancy. I’m also trying to prepare myself mentally for labor and delivery… and beyond.
