Outie Inevitability?

Published by Donna at 8:14 pm under conception / pregnancy

turkeytimer.jpgEver since she discovered that I was pregnant, a lady at work would greet me by asking, “do you have an outie yet?”

My answer is always a cheerful, “not yet!” although I must admit that her question scares the beejeebers out of me.

I’ve always had a cute little innie that resembled a small slit. Since my waistline has started expanding, so has my bellybutton. My cute little innie is turning into a big, gaping hole in my tummy. Knowing my outie phobia, Hubby has started teasing, “look! It’s going to be an outie soon!”

Egads. I dread the day my cute little innie turns into a pop-up turkey timer.

So, my question is… does every pregnant woman get an outie eventually? Do outies turn back into innies after the turkey baby gets delivered?

hmmm… I don’t think I developed a full on outie, more like my innie just kinda became flat like I had no belly button at all!
At least, that’s how i remember it …

And it is back to an innie now …

You crack me up! Although I admit to having a weird belly button aversion.. anything mine does creeps me out. And yes, mine stretched til it was flat with Baby C, and popped just a slight bit. I swear with every sneeze I thought I was going to split open from the belly button! And it’s now an innie, albeit bigger, shallower, and less convoluted inside.

Oh and I’m here now!! So keep your calendar open for early/mid July, as I will be dragging your belly around town for photos. Even if you’re not sure you want them now, I promise you you will after Miss Snowflake is born!

My innie became a full blown outie then thankfully returned to an innie. LOL But wasn’t so funny when I realized I couldn’t wear t-shirt type maternity tops because the outie was obvious through the fabric and that was even through the preggie panel of my pants! Talk about Egads!

That was 20 yrs ago, I don’t suppose much has changed since then except cuter diapers, better baby paraphernalia, and way cuter maternity clothes! (think “under construction” with an arrow pointing down to the belly!) And we thought it was cute at the time.

    Double egads!

Not all innies turn to outties… mine just went flat and looked like a weird deformity on my tummy…wasn’t very attractive… but innie or outtie, it’s all worth it in the end.

And by the way, I kinda think outties are cute! When they pop out, it means your almost done! :o)

In my 3 pregnancies mine never went OUT. Mine’s kinda squished to begin with and so with the pregnancies it just became an open hole. But never an outtie. Not even close. Heh!

this is sooo funny and reading everyone’s comments & experiences is making me laugh! I was like ‘toothfairy’ … innie became an outie and back in again…but then again i did gain 50 #, since i didn’t want my baby to be crowded in there :)

Nope. Outtie all the way for me….just looked like a strange flat ovoid shape on my tummy. I have to say, the best thing about that was that my bellybutton got a good cleaning! I love a clean bellybutton, and it felt great to finally have it free of dirt!

A little late with this comment but mine stayed an innie all the way through. Four times. :)

I didn’t get an outtie though my belly button did get shallower. It returned to normal as the uterus shrunk back down to its usual size.

I’m 8 months and I always had an innie. Mine did not pop but just went flat, then last week it split open but sisn’t pop out. Now i just have an open wound that kinda dried up there. Did this happen to anyone else?
