18 days

Published by Donna at 7:25 pm under body, conception / pregnancy

I hope this cold goes away soon. Every time I sneeze, I worry that I’m going to blow the baby clear out of my uterus. Being sick just doesn’t feel like it’s good for the baby and I’m about as paranoid as a newly pregnant woman can be about the health and welfare of the tiny Snowflake. No, make that MORE paranoid than most. I am, in fact, counting the very days to the end of my first trimester (in 18 days) which is when I can breathe a little easier and safely begin telling people that I’m pregnant, according to my doc. As if everyone doesn’t already know by now. Between this website, the few people I’ve told, and the rumor mill at work I might as well be wearing a sign that proclaims, “I’m pregnant!”

I hope the coming of the end of my first trimester (in 18 days) will also bring the end of my morning 24/7 sickness. Being able to eat my favorite foods with reckless abandon is almost unimaginable at this point. For now, the teeniest meals that I manage to squeeze down hardly seems nutritious enough to support me, much less the baby. My mother-in-law even declared that she will be bringing me a pack of Ensure to, well, ensure that I’m getting all the nutrients that I need. I hope I’ll be able to drink it without gagging.

Okay, I’ve expended all of the energy I have for now. It’s back to bed for me.

*hugs* I hope you feel better soon. Being pg and sick and sick on top of that is no fun- I’ve been there myself!

Have faith that your body is doing everything it can to support your little one, and that Snowflake is getting what s/he needs. Even with my horrible sickness and the medications I took to keep me out of the hospital (at 4x standard does no less), my baby is happy, healthy, and perfect.

Get better soon. I’m sure it’s not a good feeling to be sick and carrying the baby.

    You’ll make it! Ganbatte!

I don’t know if anything has changed but many years ago, my doctor told me that I shouldn’t worry too much about baby getting the proper nutrients. He said that, nutrition wise, baby will take what baby needs and mom gets what is leftover. I felt a lot better after hearing that. He also said that I could cut the prenatal vitamins into smaller pieces if it made it easier to keep down. Glad you are resting! Praying for your speedy recovery

Awww, Donna. I’m sorry you’re sick and send prayers for a quick(er) recovery. Try not to worry about the Snowflake too much…I think God made a brilliant design for keeping babies just where they belong while you sneeze!

Okay, this sounds really weird, but my cousin swears by it:
When you have a cold, rub vick’s vapor rub on your feet and cover with socks. (the cream is better than the vaseline-like version)

I personally haven’t tried it, but she prescribed it to me when I was recently sick.

Hang in there! I remember that my first trimester was torture but you’ll get through it. Just remember that it’s all for the snowflake! Like everyone else has said, baby will be your body’s priority for nutrition and will get everything s/he needs to grow into a big snowball, even if you feel cruddy and can’t eat much.

    Aloha Donna!

    Maybe try some miso soup…?

Tough for *you especially* to be away from your favorite foods…

Yes, do try the Ensure. Be sure to hydrate plenty.

Rest well when you can, and know that there are others that care for you and SnowflakeS.

    Warmest Aloha!

    KC

Donna!!! big congrats! I haven’t been here in awhile, so I just found out your great news! it took 3 years and 3 pregnancies before my sweet Maiya was born. So whenever I hear someone who has gone through fertility issues is pregnant, I am over the moon for them. I remember well the waiting and hoping and wondering and praying that you make it past the 12 week mark. Anyways, I know this cold is knocking you down right now, but you’ll get through it. I’ll be thinking good thoughts for you!!! Take care of yourself.

I hope all is well with you and your snowflake, you haven’t blogged in quite a few days. Am keeping you in my thoughts and prayers.

Noticed that suggestion about rubbing Vicks on your feet… yah, laugh but you know what? IT WORKS! I had that bad cold that’s going around (the one where you keep coughing for weeks) and I tried it and Lo and Behold… no coughing! Go figure. I’ll try almost anything if it doesn’t involve ingesting foreign matter.

    Take care!
