…And he kicked me out

The Snowflake’s second portrait

Today was my second ultrasound. This time, Hubby was in town and was able to see the baby’s heartbeat for the first time. (He was traveling when we had the first ultrasound.) The doc says I’m at 8 weeks and 5 days according to the ultrasound, which is strange because exactly 2 weeks ago, I was told that I was 6 weeks and 3 days. Whatever the case, my due date is September 24, 2008.

I am happy to report that the doctor says the Snowflake has a strong heartbeat! But, he always makes it clear that I am still “not out of the woods yet” and warned me that many miscarriages happen between the 4th and the 12th weeks of pregnancy. I will be taking it very easy at least for the next 4 weeks or so.

Then, he said, “it’s safe to start telling people once you hit the 12th week.” Ooops. Too late. The whole world, including the Internet, already know. But, it’s okay. I always meant for my journey to be open and transparent, no matter what the outcome. But, we’re keeping all things in prayer for the Snowflake, that I’ll be able to carry baby to full term and that he/she will be born healthy and strong.

Doc congratulated us and said, “okay, now I’m kicking you out. Make an appointment with your ob/gyn in two weeks.”

“You mean that’s it? This is my last appointment with you?” I asked, incredulous. I thought he’d be monitoring my progress at least through the end of my first trimester. I felt a tinge of sadness. After all, doc and his staff had been a big part of my life for the past two years. Had I known this was my last appointment, I would have brought the staff a goodie basket as a thank you for all their help and care during my journey.

“That’s right, I’m kicking you out,” he grinned as he gave me a warm hug. “Good job, guys. I’ll see you again in about a year and six months. One year to rest… that should be about the right time.”

A year and six months. I can’t imagine going through another in vitro cycle. But who knows, maybe after experiencing the joy of having the Snowflake, I just might reconsider.

Donna, This is such wonderful news! I remember seeing my own son at that stage. Just take good care of yourself… this is the time to pamper yourself. I really enjoyed my pregnancy. Take lots of naps if you have to. For some reason, it prepares you for the least amount of sleep you’ll ever have in the months following the birth of the baby. Congratulations to both you! Gambatte kudasai!

Hi Donna! Congratulations!!! Just dropped by to visit your site. I totally heart-felt tearing when I realized you having this miracle! I followed along your blog since 2003, but then I was off following when I started working full time. Finally, right now I got some time to catch up! This is a true blessing from God! :) This really amazing! :) It really verifies that God is answering our prayers in many ways.
