5 lbs later
I have been feeling pretty hefty lately, so I stepped on the bathroom scale today. Lo and behold, since I started the meds for my IVF FET (in vitro fertilization, frozen embryo transfer) on December 8, I have gained five pounds.
holidays + hormones + no exercise = weight gain
I was cautioned not to get “overheated” during the process, so I stopped training in karate except to assist with the white belts. And, I stopped walking altogether. How quickly the pounds come on — and how hard they are to lose. Oh, the irony.
Perhaps when I pick up a fresh supply of Progesterone at the doc’s tomorrow, I’ll ask if I can safely go walking without jeopardizing the Snowflakes. It’s a precarious endeavor, I tell you.

Oh the weight gain woes I know them so well, keep the faith!
Always,
NEENZ
Hey, I just know that 5 pounds doesn’t really bother you in the name of good baby making!
By the way, love the new design!
I wouldn’t worry too much about 5 lbs. But, if it’s a detriment to exercise too much, maybe you can simply modify the diet a little? Like, more fresh salads in place of rice?
Anyway, did I say I luv your new design? It’s like eye candy. Makes me want to visit often.
@NEENZ: Mahalo! Hubby said he read an article that said a woman gained 25 lbs. in several days after her embryo transfer. HOLY MOLY! I guess my 5 lbs. in 1 month is nothing. (Actually, her weight gain was caused by a dangerous condition called hyperstimulation. Yikes!)
@April: Thanks! I’m glad you like the new design. I was getting tired of the old one. Time for a change. You’re right, I would gain half a person if it meant a healthy baby!
@randomguru: Yes, the doc has me on “light duty” and “no activity” for 2 weeks. I’m trying to eat brown rice now (instead of white) and less of it. Also, eating more veggies and less meats. Also trying to stay away from fried foods, but I hate to say it, it’s tough sometimes! Thanks for your kind comments about my new design! That’s quite a compliment coming from you! Thank you!!
Donna,
Don’t fret the weight gain. Trust me, I gained 22 lbs in less than one week during my first try (I did AI 8 times and IVF 1 time). I gained a total of 67 lbs total during my fertility process. I lost 15 lbs the month following my last treatment - without even dieting or exercising. The rest came off after 3 months of dieting and exercising.
It’s all worth it! I’m so excited and happy for you.
Aloha,
Kalei
