Who is Champuru?

Aloha, I'm Donna, known everywhere on the Internet as "Champuru." Storm!

We were awakened by the sounds of a violent storm outside. It was 3:00 am and soon after, the telltale beep of my UPS’s indicated that we had just lost power. Snuggled up with Hubby, we listened to the storm outside until we both fell asleep again. Wind and torrential rain pummeled the islands overnight, leaving debris, chaos, and widespread power outages in its wake.

It wasn’t until after 3:00 pm when our power was restored. Not that I’m complaining, since there are many locations that are still without electricity tonight. I give the good folks at HECO big time kudos, especially in times like these. They are definitely earning their money today.

So, will tomorrow be the calm after the storm? I hope so, since we’re scheduled to do some video shoots on the road tomorrow. Luckily, we don’t have to film any “talent”, just B-roll.

Well, back to editing.

two homes down the roof got blown off…the news said it was 70 mph of wind, and gust…crazy

  • We lost power up here too for about 8-1/2 hours. Luckily no damage to our house or trees. My car’s still in the shop so my wife drove me in and had to pick me up. Traffic was nearly non-existent. I feel a little guilty because my job doesn’t require me to help out on the system restoration side. I suppose if there was an island-wide blackout during a workday I’d be asked to help out with traffic routing or something of that nature. Our troublemen (sorry they’re still called that) are the real heroes on days like this – literally taking a risk in repairing and getting power back up even with the heavy weather.

I’m glad here in Wahiawa we only had to live without power for about 1- 1 1/2 hours…today went out again for about the same…some places in town their power went down today ,and still haven’t came back…

  • Power was down here from 2:35 am on Wednesday until 8:00 pm on Wednesday.
