This time last year…

Published by Donna under culture, vlog

Last year, I filmed a vlog to record my mom-in-law’s secret “simple ozoni” recipe for posterity — and so I’d remember how to make it in coming years. Unfortunately, that was before I discovered the correct encoding settings, so the video quality is pretty poor. (Oh, and let’s not even talk about that bad haircut!) Nevertheless, the content is what’s important! I’m posting this early, just in case anyone wants to try their hand at making this simplified version of a traditional new year’s dish.

Happy new year!

On Crack

Published by Donna under daily

Last night was spent researching LCD HDTVs online with the Hubby. Since we couldn’t make it to New Orleans for the Sugar Bowl, we’ve decided to upgrade our 32″ boob tube for either a 37″ or 42″ LCD TV to watch the UH Warriors play Georgia on New Year’s Day.

At around 9:00 p.m. last night…

Me: The 42″ Vizio is cheaper at Wal-mart.

Hubs: Is it in stock?

Me: *clicking the link to check* Yeah! It’s in stock! Let’s go now!

Hubs: Are you on crack?!

Needless to say, we didn’t go last night to pick up the TV. Hubby and I are different in that respect. I am willing to jump in my car at almost any hour to make such a purchase, while Hubby is much more practical and will wait for the light of day to avoid making impulse buys. I believe that’s why it’s good to have a spouse who is the yang to my yin, we keep each other in balance.

And, just for the record, I’m not on crack. I’m on dexamethasone, doryx, and climara patches!

Toothy Dreams

Published by Donna under daily

In last night’s dream…

A natural disaster had just occurred, I believe it was an earthquake. I was in junior high and teachers were rushing around and gathering students and putting them on buses.

For some reason, I had my NiteGuard mouthpiece in my mouth. It felt funny in my mouth. I pulled it out and found that the mouthpiece was in pieces and two of my bottom teeth were loose. Apparently, in a moment of terror, I had ground my mouthpiece to bits with my teeth. I pulled a compact mirror out of my school bag and peered into my open mouth. With my finger, I touched one of my loose teeth and noticed that it was on the verge of falling out.

While everyone else was in a virtual panic about the earthquake, I was more concerned about my teeth and getting to a dentist asap.

…and then I woke up. Twenty years had passed, but the good news is that I still had all my teeth.

Apparently dreams about teeth are quite common according to this website. While I don’t put much credence in the interpretations given in that site and others (as they are mostly unfavorable), I was pretty amused by last night’s nocturnal revelation.

Christmas Greetings

Published by Donna under daily

Santa Tobi

With three hours left of Christmas 2007, I’d like to wish all of you a very merry Christmas. I hope all your Christmas wishes came true.

In all of the hustle and bustle of the holidays, I pray that we’ll also remember the reason for the season, the birth of Jesus Christ. May He bless you and your family this Christmas and in the new year.

Technology Rules

iPod Touch

Thanks to everyone who responded to my pleas for advice on wireless routers via comments, twitters, and e-mail. I appreciate everyone’s suggestions as well as the gracious offers for free equipment and those who even volunteered to come to my house to set up my wireless network! I feel so loved!

Ryan S. was kind enough to drop off a Netgear wireless router to me today, which made my decision pretty easy. My main motivation was to provide connectivity for my iPod Touch, so I’ll save the purchase of the AirPort Extreme for when I take the plunge and buy a Macbook. By then, there will probably be a better (and cheaper?) model out. But, for now, since my wireless needs are few, the free option was the most attractive.

When I got home from the day’s activities, I fought off the afternoon lethargy and promptly set up the router, switching out my “crusty Linksys” as Derek so aptly put it. After securing my network, I fired up my iPod Touch and it immediately found the network and prompted me to login. Then, bam! I was online, just like that.

The touchscreen keyboard takes some getting used to due to my fat fingers, but the predictive texting feature is pretty handy.

With my wireless connection and iPod Touch, I can now blog from bed and tweet from the toilet. What more can you possibly ask for?

Blogging from bed

Published by Donna under techie

I’m doing a test run. I’m actually blogging from bed right now from my iPod Touch. In less than two weeks, this will be my modus operandi until I am off of bed rest.

It works pretty well for a tiny wireless device with no keyboard. My only gripe? My fat fingers. It’s going to take a little getting used to. But at least I’ll have my connection to the world while I’m in bed urging the snowflakes to stick.
