Sitting here in front of my Mac, sipping a cup of hot chocolate, and working on the newsletter layout for my client. My deadline to press is Wednesday, which means I need to get a draft to the client by tomorrow. Needless to say, I have 3 pages laid out so far. I think we may be looking at a 12-pager this time, which means I’m less than a third of the way done.
To help me concentrate on the task at hand, I put on a pair of headphones, plugged myself into my iMac and fired up iTunes. Like putting blinders on a horse, the headphones helped reduce distractions, akin to the audible version of eliminating my peripheral vision. I used to listen to music on headphones when my cool portable music player was called a walkman and there was no such thing as an iPod. When my hard rock fanaticism of my teen years waned, so did my habit of piping music directly into my eardrums. Even though I own 3 iPods (not counting Hubby’s), I normally use it at work, plugging it into a set of desktop speakers to play background music to work by. I had almost forgotten how great it is to hear every nuance of the music that you often miss when playing it at low volume on speakers.
Poor Hubby. If he felt neglected before, he certainly feels neglected once I put my headphones on. I am lost to this world once the music starts. Must resist the temptation to leave these on permanently. Oh, and don’t even get me a pair of Bose headphones. They might never come off.
For your amusement, here’s what I’ve been tuned into tonight:
“Don’t Forget Me,” Glass Tiger
“King of Wishful Thinking,” Go West
“I’m No Angel,” Gregg Allman Band
“When the Heart Rules the Mind,” GTR
“Never,” Heart
“Rockit,” Herbie Hancock
“We Don’t Have to Take Our Clothes Off,” Jermaine Stewart
“Life in a Northern Town,” Dream Academy
“The Reflex,” Duran Duran
“Hawaiian Eyes,” Jon Osorio and Randy Borden
