Gizmobies - iPod skins

Published by Donna at 9:52 pm under techie

I have an unnatural fear of kiosks. This is mainly because some kiosk vendors are about as aggressive as vacuum cleaner salesmen and I have a very real problem with high pressure sales. The problem is: I can’t say no. So, instead, I am keenly aware of which kiosks have vultures poised to attack, and I deliberately avoid them.

On the flip side, there are some kiosks that offer some really cool wares. Rod shares his gadgety find on DaScoops.com. iPod fans will really appreciate this one. This is one kiosk I won’t be avoiding. :)

Here’s an excerpt:

I first saw Gizmobies at Meadows Mall in Las Vegas. I thought they were so kewl, I wanted to buy an iPod just to plaster some on. But since they weren’t readily available in Honolulu, I passed on buying an iPod - and bought a Samsung K5 instead.

But hold on to your earbuds! Gizmobies are now available at Ala Moana center. I don’t know how the guy did it, but he was able to secure a kiosk right in front of the Apple store. Talk about location, location, location! Read the rest of the article>>

Your fear of aggressive kiosk vendors reminds me of a funny story. We were at Belz outlet mall in Las Vegas, all shopped out and heading out of the mall to the parking lot. But before we could get out, my wife stopped to look at a kiosk with bling-bling for the hair - clips, pins, etc. The Korean girl quickly got up off her chair and placed the bling that my wife was looking at in her hair and adjusted the mirror for my wife to see - as my wife picked up another bling to look at.
We could tell that this might take some time, so my 2 daughters and I found an empty bench close by to rest. After about 5 minutes had passed, I turned to look at how my wife was doing at the kiosk. Then I blurted out to my girls “Check out mom with all that crap in her hair!”. She must’ve had about 7 or 8 different clips/pins/junk put in her hair by the salesgirl. We were laughing so hard!

When my wife finally left the kiosk, she had bought just 1 blingly hair clip. But we shared with her how we had a good laugh looking at her with all that junk in hair. I told her it reminded me of Sarah in the movie Labrynth when the junk collector lady was hanging trinkets all over Sarah.
And we always recall this story when my wife stops by a kiosk selling hair bling.

So I do understand your fear of kiosk, Donna. btw, the guy I talked to at the Gizmobies kiosk - local guy. Not pushy at all, but very helpful.

Rod: Thanks for sharing that. What a hoot!

I’m sure there are a lot of nice, non-pushy kiosk people out there. :) My kiosk experience is with skin care products. Can you imagine sitting at a kiosk in the middle of a mall with half your face covered in a green facial mask for ten minutes? Well, that was me. The guy tried a bunch of different stuff on me and I ended up spending about $200 on a couple of different masks, moisturizers, and he “threw in” a nail kit for free. I swear, the people at skin care kiosks stalk people like me.
