Rough Night

Last night was a rough one for me.

When we returned from our quick jaunt to Waikele Premium Outlets as part of my “reintroduction into society” effort, I was plagued by sharp pain on the left side of my abdomen, about a hand’s-breadth away from the incision site, and an excruciating lower back pain on the same side. I don’t know if I somehow strained myself simply by leaving the house for a couple of hours or if it was caused by a mysterious “something else.”

Perhaps the mysterious “something else” could be explained by our spontaneous decision to have dinner at Little Caesars at the Big K. I ordered a tossed salad with caesar dressing and mooched off of Hubby’s order of Crazy Bread. Mental Note: Despite the misguided notion that an establishment called “Little Caesars” should have decent caesar salad dressing, I urge you: don’t do it. Unfortunately, I emptied the entire $0.49 packet on my lettuce and was sorely disappointed. Even stretching my imagination to its outer limits, I couldn’t make myself believe that I was eating caesar dressing and, sadly, it was bad enough for me to abandon the salad entirely, opting for an all-carb meal consisting of Crazy Bread and Sierra Mist. Perhaps I’m just spoiled and my taste buds were expecting something more along the lines of a caesar salad expertly prepared tableside in a wooden bowl. Whatever the case, it ended up not being such a healthy dinner. But dang, that Crazy Bread sure tastes great when you’re hungry.

Wow, that was a tangent if I ever saw one.

When I got home, I was in agony. I was tempted to pop one of my prescription Motrin pills, but opted instead to take a Gas-X and have Hubby spray my back with Satohap. Although it sounds grossly unladylike, I suspect that the sharp pangs in my abdomen were caused by gas. As a safety measure, I’m swearing off carbonated drinks, including my beloved diet Pepsi. As for the lower back pain, I am not quite sure whether it was exacerbated by the walking or if it’s a result of long periods of sitting and slouching. Whatever the case may be, the pain was a grim reminder that I am still not as close to being 100% as I thought I was. If I had to happen a guess, I would say I am hovering around an optimistic 70-75% recovered.

Subsequently, I slept nearly 11 hours following the episode and woke up this morning feeling markedly better. The bad news is that I still can’t get to sleep a minute earlier than midnight. That is definitely going to be a problem.

We’ll know more tomorrow after my post-op appointment with the infertility specialist. I’ll also see if he’ll give me clearance to return to work on Monday and whether I can recommence exercising.

So far, tonight is turning out to be a lot smoother than last night. If I can get to sleep before midnight, I will be a happy camper.

i’m glad you’re feeling better after getting some sleep, donna! but i have to tell you that in my experiences, little caesars is one of the worst pizza places i’ve ever been. it’s a huge chain, but for the life of me, i don’t know why. they have the lowest quality ingredients and taste is horrible. i’m not surprised that you got ill there. good luck on your follow-up exam, tho!

  • Bri: Thanks for the comment! The post-op appointment went well! Perhaps you’re right – maybe I need to steer clear of Little Caesars, at least for now. Health is of utmost importance now!

  • Lindy: That really is a coincidence! And, here I thought it was just gas? If you find out what it is, do tell! I get the pain every so often.
