You know what makes me grouchy? Seeing those pesky $1.49 charges for directory assistance on my wireless bill. Did you know that you can get directory assistance for free? If not, allow me to give you the 411…
I’ve used Free 411 a few times (dial 1-800-FREE-411). It’s free because you have to listen to a short ad before receiving your requested phone listing. Unlike directory assistance offered by your wireless provider, Free 411 does not connect you to the number, so have a piece of paper ready.
Today, I saw an article on my TechCrunch RSS feed about Google launching their own version of free 411 called Goog-411. To access it, just dial 1-800-GOOG-411 (1-800-466-4411). Goog-411 has a couple of one-ups on Free 411, such as the convenience of automatically being put through to the requested number and, if desired, having the information sent to you via SMS.
I haven’t tried the service myself yet, so if you get the chance, let me know how it works out for you.
So, now that you know, add Goog-411 to your Contacts list and save yourself a nice chunk of change.
Thanks to everyone who has extended their well-wishes for my upcoming surgery either via comment, e-mail or IRL hugs and support. I appreciate them all.
Last night, I started feeling like I was coming down with a cold. The feeling continued this morning as I awakened with a slight headache and a scratchy throat. Two doses of Airborne, an awesome Easter service, and an early lunch at Quizno’s seemed to help the ickies go away. I just finished prepping my Broccoli Casserole for Easter dinner at the in-laws’. I’m debating whether I should err on the side of caution and send Hubby and the casserole to the dinner while I stay home to rest — or just throw caution to the wind and attend the dinner anyway. Sometimes, it seems that getting a lot of rest at the onset of a cold helps me to actually keep it at bay. This is one week when I really don’t need to be fighting a cold. After all, I need to be in top shape for the procedure on Friday. I don’t need a cold distracting my immune system from the task at hand.
To go, or not to go. I’ll make the decision a little later.
In the meantime, I’ll share mom-in-law’s Broccoli Casserole recipe with you. It’s a regular favorite at family parties, one of mom-in-law’s specialties. She has since passed the torch to me and I’ve made the casserole for the last few gatherings. It’s delicious and even the kids like it!
Broccoli Casserole
2 pkg chopped broccoli
8 oz. grated (or shredded) cheddar cheese
1 c. mayonnaise
1/2 onion (chopped)
2 eggs
1 can cream of mushroom soup
In a large bowl, mix all ingredients and put in a 9 x 13 pan.
Topping:
1 block of butter or margarine (melted)
1 stack of Ritz crackers (crushed)
Melt butter or margarine, add crushed crackers and mix. Spread over the top, covering completely.
Bake at 350° for 30 minutes or until the top is brown. Enjoy!
Happy Resurrection Sunday, everyone!
