Rainy Ramblings

Despite the fact that we’ve had 40+ days of rain, I still haven’t mastered the proper technique to stay dry en route from building to car - even with the assistance of my cute red umbrella. On more than one occasion, I’ve felt that use of the umbrella was all for naught since I ended up getting pretty soggy simply during the few seconds that it takes for me to throw my purse in, close the umbrella, shake it out, and toss it onto the floor behind the driver’s seat. Am I the only one with this problem?
Although most residents curse the sight of the heavy, dark rain clouds looming over the islands, I must admit that I love the rain. Certainly, I don’t enjoy driving in the traffic snarls that heavy rains seem to elicit, but the pattering of raindrops on the windows and the rhythmic thumping of windshield wipers have a calming effect on me, especially after a long day at the office.
I am wondering, though, when will it end? I feel sorry for those poor souls who spent their life savings on a sunny, tropical Hawaiian vacation only to find that they landed in soggy Seattle. To add insult to injury, there’s the raw sewage flowing into the ocean and the closure of some of Hawaii’s most famous beaches. Lovely. Not good for the tourist industry, I’m sure.
On the bright side, at least this weather gives the Hawaii’s forecasters something to report besides the usual, “Partly cloudy, chance of windward and mauka showers. Trades 10-15 miles per hour.”

In order to remain dry between building and car, especially on those instances where you may be sans umbrella, you simply need to use the ancient Iga ninjutsu of “raindrop dodging”…that is, you simply run between the falling raindrops, thereby, staying dry!
I love the picture and more importantly I love the rain, especially Hawaii rain. I miss that so much now that I live on the mainland. After 10 years in Las Vegas and now living the last year in North Carolina, there hasn’t been much rain to speak of. I remember waking up on Saturday mornings at home on the Big Island with the rain pounding on our to corrugated metal roof. It was such a soothing sound and made me want to bury even further into bed. Even going to sleep with those sounds at night was like having a weird lullaby. I think your picture totally expresses the beautiful rain in Hawaii.
I was just thinking that, today, as I saw several tour busses transporting hundreds of Japanese tourists to the airport for their return home.
That’s really got to suck.
BTW: Get a bigger umbrella.
Stop taking pictures and drive!!!
LOL@ Hubs!
You forgot the “Highs in the mid 80s, lows in the mid 70s” part of the forecast
Ugh, I have soaked both myself and T getting into/out of the car. I try putting the umbrella on top of the open door, which helps a little, but today it blew away!
