This had been in the works for months. Hawaii’s inaugural Flickr Meetup was set for March 11 at Kahana Bay, complete with out-of-town guests and a scrumptious potluck list. Unfortunately, mother nature didn’t seem to be cooperating in the weeks leading up to the great event and we ended up making a last minute location change to Kaka`ako Waterfront Park. We were pleased that the rain clouds parted just in time for the gathering, slightly overcast and blustery, but gloriously dry.

ai pohaku (Arlyn) and chiegondo (Chie) found the perfect spot on the pavilion overlooking the ocean, with a densely canopied trellis to provide shade for us indoorsy types. It was comfortable and relaxing and offered a superb setting for mingling, eating, and photo ops.

I always have a little bit of apprehension when meeting new people since I feel socially awkward at times, but I was pleased to find that everyone was open, friendly and so easy to talk to. The event was even more memorable because I finally got to meet some of the journalists and photogs whom I had been admiring for years. People like Internet maven, Ryan Ozawa and the talented Lisa of windwardskies.com. Also, more recently, the witty adobokimbap. Meeting the people behind the fantastic images that I see everyday on Flickr was absolutely delightful.

Old friends like Lindy and Derek were also in attendance to make the afternoon even more enjoyable.
What a wonderful way to spend a Saturday! Thanks, Flickrites! Hope to do this again soon!

Looks like everyone had so much fun!
wow .. that must have been a great little excuse to celebrate during all this gloomy weather. looks like you guys had lots of fun.
We had a fabulous time meeting up with everyone at blustery Kaka’ako. It was a real delight to make your acquaintance! Looking forward to the follow-up Flickr gathering.
‘Twas truly a wonderful day meeting everyone!
I hope we can all do it again sometime soon.
Funny, but it’s almost as if Arlyn and I had purposely “ducked” in order for there to be a space for you to put in that “flickr Hawaii Meetup” graphic!
