Vegetarian, Vegan? Me?
I just traumatized myself by watching 2 PETA videos tonight. I stumbled upon one when I looked up “foie gras” in Google. At the top of the list is “Foie Gras: The Delicacy of Despair”. Of course, curiosity killed the cat - and apparently a lot of other animals as well. I literally sat in front of my computer, crying, as I watched the horrific conditions and treatment that ducks bred for foie gras must endure.
As if that wasn’t enough torture, I clicked on a feature on “J Crew’s Dirty Little Secret,” an investigation about the fur trade in China. I had to shut it off and walk away because I couldn’t stand to watch the entire video. My stomach had actually turned.
Luckily, I don’t look good in fur.
“That’s it, I’m going to be a vegetarian,” I told Hubby, who was peering over my shoulder watching the videos with me.
“You’d have to be a vegan,” he said matter-of-factly. Knowing my love of a good filet mignon, he urged, “Watch the one about the cows.”
“Nooooooo….”
As I read through the rest of the site, I sighed, “Damnit, I can’t even eat fish or eggs now! I’m going to have to live on tofu and vegetables. Daaaammmitttt…”
“Yeah, until you see their video on the unethical treatment of soy beans.”
I’m doomed.

Man, that China’s Dog and Cat Fur Trade video clip is heartwrenching. Being the animal lover that I am, I was bawling in front of the computer. I’ve always been very opposed to wearing fur but I think we are still supporting the cruelty by buying leather and such. As a consumer in a very consumer-oriented world, it’s hard to avoid. As for eating meat etc, I actually stopped eating red meat awhile back but it’s hard to cut out chicken and fish entirely. And with my allergies to gluten and wheat products, I don’t know how I can successfully be a vegan.
wow…
I love animals too… especially dogs. i miss the one our family had while i was growing up.
i don’t think i want to watch these videos…
i’ve been watching the Food Network all weekend, and the combo wouldn’t be so great.
i’m not sure i could stomach watching those videos. i remember the first time i learned how cows and chickens lived, i became a vegetarian. i was so mortified. i don’t know if i want to live off of tofu again.
How’s this:
o Can’t eat meat because of Mad Cow Disease
o Can’t eat fowl because of Avian Flu
o Can’t eat fish because of chemical weapons off Waianae
Vegetarian might become our only option…
Nothing will ever stop my cholesterol intake.
Nothing…do you hear? No smarmy PETA video…no crying baby piggies…

Bring on the beef, baby.
What’s really messed up with PETA is that they believe that all animals should be free and thus they are against people even having dogs, cats, whatever as pets. You cannot own an animal because that would make them a slave. Heck you cannot even own pet fish!
The thing that hacks me off about the Peta people is that the video they have is very much outdated and none of those practices are in effect now.
But the worst thing is that if you are diabetic, and part of Peta, you are not suppose to use insulin shots because it is an animal based solution, which means you’re taking the animals stuff into your body…
However look at the main people in Peta, they all got pets, they even have picutres of them in the brochures, also the top person of Peta is a diabetic, do you think she does not take her insulin shots?… There’s a name for people like these.
For more information about the truth, check out Penn & Teller’s B.S. show on Peta. Which also includes a giant room in their blue prints, avalible for anyone to see, which is used to execute animals in their office.
