We’re about 90% moved in, but we still have a TON of stuff to do at the old house. Dreadful tasks like wiping down the inside of the cabinets, cleaning the jalousies, patching and painting the walls, and basically doing a whirlwind cleaning job. If we didn’t have to spend an arm and a leg on getting the new home up to snuff, I’d gladly pay a cleaning service to do the deed.
Here’s an inventory of the stuff that’s been breaking our bank lately:
1) About 90% of the furniture is new. (Thank you, Ashley Furniture, for the military discount!) Including an *ouch!* adjustable queen-size Tempur-Pedic bed which alone cost more than all the furniture in the livingroom. But it’s oh-so-worth it. Really!
2) New shower heads
3) All new burners, drip pans and rings on the range.*
4) Stackable front-loading washer and dryer.*
5) New kitchen faucet, PUR water purifier*
6) 2 ceiling fans
7) Security system
*The items marked with an asterisk (*) were unplanned and replaced only because we found out when we moved in that these items were broken or in poor condition. (Funny how these things did not surface during our inspection, nor did the previous owners bother to mention it.) Ah, the joys of home ownership.
Not that I’m complaining. I feel completely blessed and really love our new place.
As far as the old residence, it seems neverending. Stuff just keeps coming out of the woodwork. I really believe that the stuff are mating with each other and are giving birth to even more stuff in the darkness of my closets.
I still feel like I need another week before relinquishing the keys to the property manager.
I mean, I can’t wait for the day when I will return the keys and be completely DONE with that place — I just wish I could just leave it right now, as is, and bid it all a not-so-fond aloha. Of course, I can’t do that but it’s a nice thought.
It’s only 10:00 pm and I’m completely wiped out. I am expecting another exhausting day tomorrow, full of heavy lifting and lots of dirty work. I can’t wait until we’re done.
Until then, no rest.
